UFO Motion Blur Test
Test motion blur, ghosting, and pixel response time
What is the UFO Test?
The UFO test is a classic tool for assessing motion blur, ghosting, and pixel response time on displays. Watch the UFO move across the screen to identify trailing, smearing, or double images that indicate slow pixel transitions.
Start the test and observe the UFO as it moves. Try different speeds and backgrounds to see how your display handles fast motion. A high-quality display will show a crisp, clear UFO with minimal trailing.

What to Look For
- •Motion Blur: Does the UFO appear blurry or smeared while moving? This indicates slow pixel response times.
- •Ghosting: Do you see multiple copies or ghost images of the UFO? This is called inverse ghosting or pixel overshoot.
- •Trailing: Does the UFO leave a visible trail behind it? This indicates poor pixel response and transition times.
Tips for Best Results
- ✓ Test at different speeds - faster speeds make motion blur more obvious
- ✓ Try different backgrounds - dark backgrounds make trailing more visible
- ✓ Sit at your normal viewing distance for accurate assessment
- ✓ Compare results with different monitor settings (overdrive, response time mode)
