Viewing Angle Test

Assess color shift and contrast at different viewing positions

What is Viewing Angle Testing?

Viewing angle testing helps you understand how your display's image quality changes when viewed from different positions. Different panel types (TN, IPS, VA, OLED) have dramatically different viewing angle characteristics.

Use the test patterns below to check how colors, contrast, and brightness change when you view your screen from different angles. Move your head or adjust your viewing position to see the differences.

Display Panel Types

TN (Twisted Nematic)

Narrow viewing angles, significant color shift especially on vertical axis. Common in budget gaming monitors.

IPS (In-Plane Switching)

Wide viewing angles with minimal color shift. Popular for professional work and high-end displays.

VA (Vertical Alignment)

Good horizontal angles, moderate vertical angles. Can show color shift when viewed from above/below.

OLED

Excellent viewing angles in all directions with minimal color shift. Premium display technology.

Test Patterns

Watch for color banding or shifts in the gradients when viewing from angles

How to Test

  1. 1. Position yourself directly in front of the screen at eye level
  2. 2. Note the colors, brightness, and contrast of the test patterns
  3. 3. Move your viewing position: look from above, below, left, and right
  4. 4. Observe any color shifts, brightness changes, or contrast loss
  5. 5. Compare the differences - minimal change indicates good viewing angles

What to Expect

Good Viewing Angles

Colors remain consistent, contrast stays strong, minimal brightness loss up to 45-60° off-center

Poor Viewing Angles

Noticeable color shifts, washed out appearance, significant brightness loss beyond 20-30° off-center
